How It Keeps the Food Safe
Recipes re-checked against your pantry
Every recipe the model returns is re-validated on the phone against your actual pantry list and your store-bought budget, and any recipe naming an ingredient you don't have is dropped. If nothing survives a second, stricter attempt, the app returns an error instead of showing you an invented recipe.
Allergen filter fails closed
32 allergen and diet keys expand to roughly 450 deny substrings matched on the device against every ingredient, step and recipe title — including a hyphen- and space-collapsed form, so "pea-nut" can't slip past a "peanut" rule. The matching is deliberately greedy, and a spurious hit like "coconut milk" is cleared only by a curated per-compound, per-term exemption list, never by shortening a deny word: "soy milk" is exempt from the dairy match but still fails a soy match. The decision is made on the phone, so it does not depend on the server or on having a connection.
Labels read on the device first
Any photo you take is run through on-device Vision OCR before anything is sent anywhere. If it's a readable nutrition panel, the numbers are parsed locally as exact label values and the image never leaves the phone; only a photo that isn't a label falls through to the AI relay. A scanned barcode is looked up in the Open Food Facts database before the model is called at all.
No single calorie number exists
The analysed food type has no calories field at all — an item can only carry a low, a high and a confidence level, so a fake-precise single number is impossible to represent, not merely discouraged. The meal screen prints the range.
